About Kutumsar Cave

Kutumsar was discovered in 1993 and is well known for stalactite and stalagmite formations.

Known to be India’s first and the world’s seventh underground cave, it is situated about 35mts below ground level and is about 1371 mts long. From the entrance gallery, accessible by stairs, visitors are taken through tall, narrow chambers to the great hall, which has superb acoustics.

The five chambers in the cave have several blind wells. The stalactites inside the cave prove interesting to the scientiests for experiments and arouses the curiosity of the visitors. Their breathtaking beauty is accentuated by the fact that no sunlight ever seems to reach the cave. The tribal people have many a tale woven into the history and mystery of the cave. This is known to be the worlds second longest natural cave. The Kutumsar caves are also known as Gupanpal or Kotamsar caves. Kutumsar cave is about 40Km from Jagdalpur.

How to Reach
Kutumsar Cave

To visit Kutumsar, one will have to reach to Jagdalpur in Bastar district. Jagdalpur is in Chhattisgarh and is connected by bus to Raipur and Hyderabad, and by train to Vishakhapatnam. Kutumsar is 40 Km away from Jagdalpur. It takes a drive of about an Hour to reach Kutumsar.

The Caves are located in the dense forests of Kanger Valley National Park, near the Tirathgarh Waterfalls and is situated at a distance of 40 Kms from Jagdalpur. Kutumsar Caves are underground caves located 35m below the earth.

The caves are filled with water from June to august so they are closed for visit. Also one will have to pay for the tickets, the guide, for the lamps and here there is no other way to skip tickets as was in case of Tirathgarh. I would insist to bring lamps from home to visit the caves.
