Sirpur in Mahasamund is famous for 7th century Laxman temple and other archaeological sites. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Laxman temple was built by the mother of Mahasivagupta Balarjuna in 7th century AD. The structure plan of the temple consists of a garbhagriha, antarala and a mandapa. The intricate carvings on doors and walls of the temple is the main attraction of the temple. The temple is also one of the best specimen of brick temples of ancient India. The museum of the Archaeological Survey of India in the Laxman temple premises exhibits some of the rare statues and architectural objects collected in Sirpur. Ram temple is located nearby and in ruined condition.
